1.4.4.6. Check of an axial side play of a steering wheel

1. On the standing car, having established wheels in provision of the movement on a straight line, shake a wheel here and there with small effort. If the side play does not keep within the established norms, make repair.

Side play of a steering wheel – 0–30 mm.

Note: the big total side play indicates wear of hinged connections or a big side play in the steering mechanism. Eliminate the found malfunctions.

2. Pull a steering wheel in all directions, as shown in the figure 1.177, for detection of possible wear of the bearing of a steering column, a side play in connection of a steering shaft, weakening of fastening of a steering wheel and steering column.
